THE HEAT AND THE HAMMER: WHY I CHOSE THE NAME

The Heat and the Hammer

Why the Name?

Blacksmith, Anvil, Hammer, Farrier, Horseshoe

No one escapes this life without going through tough stuff. Some folks seem to have it fairly easy. Others never seem to catch a break. The rest of us fall at different points on that spectrum.

But everyone has bad things happen to them at some point in his or her life. Maybe multiple points.

The Heat and the Hammer

Picture yourself as a horseshoe, drawn out of the fire and laid on an anvil, being hammered by the circumstances of your life.

In your life, have you had things like job loss, illness, the death of a loved one, a car wreck, a house fire, relationship troubles? Or other stuff? Things that don't line up with how you planned your life. That inconvenience you. That stump or stop you. That hurt really bad. That's what I'm talking about.

Do they seem random? Harsh? Senseless?

I believe if we can see past all the pain and discomfort, and look into the face of One who loves us dearly, we will see that there is a reason. I'm going to ask you to pause a moment and think about what that reason might be.

The purpose of the discomfort and pain is to change us.

Using examples from my own life, relationship issues have exposed my unloving heart and pushed me to re-think my motives and actions with family, friends and strangers. Conquering deathly illness has built my faith, softened me, made me a more empathetic and compassionate person. Dark times have made me understand how weak I am and have driven me to find help. And now I am compelled to offer that same help and hope to others.

The Heat and the Hammer

It's an apt name for my life and for some of the things I intend to talk about. While I hope to bring comfort in the form of the beautiful and the lovely, I also know that comfort often takes the shape of uncomfortable truths...because they help us change and become who we are intended to be.

I also plan to toss in random stuff that I just want people to know about. Maybe share a meaty post from someone's blog, or invite a guest author, or perhaps a link to useful info. Share fascinating scientific stuff. Maybe a rant or two. All of it is about life.

Care to join me? Come along as you and I talk about this challenging, beautiful journey we call life! It won't always be fun, but for sure it'll be interesting! I hope it will be of value to you as you travel your path.

P.S. Have you been in the fiery furnace or on the anvil lately? I'd love to hear how the Lord grew you through that time, in the comments below.
